The Mutant/Human MutationsMost of the mutant population was exposed to both the virus
and the radiation hazards, producing unexpected and random mutations, which were often fatal. The humans, on the other hand, were exposed mostly to radiation and their mutations are less severe, although there are exceptions.
If you're playing either a human or a mutant (or both) and wish to select anything else than light radiation exposure (moderate exposure for mutants), be extremely careful in this choice, as severe long-term radiation poisoning is not a pretty thing and it might mean more drawbacks for your character than not. There are basically three groups of mutants:
- Virus and light radiation exposure: The few that were exposed to low amounts of radiation and are suffering only from virus deformations. This includes combinations of: faltered vision, limping, weak bones, heightened senses, more developed muscles, altered hearing, loss of hair, dying off of limbs, etc. They are the rarest of their kind.
- Virus and moderate radiation exposure: The majority of mutants have been exposed to both the virus and an average amount of radiation, suffering from further mutations. These are (in addition to virus exposure only ones): additional limbs (extreme cases), great increase in power, berserking, madness, loss of intelligence, pale or differently coloured skin, greater height, etc.
- Virus and heavy radiation exposure: Again, only a few have been near the radiation zones and survived, but at a cost. Most of these mutations are damaging, if not fatal. Examples: loss of hearing/sight/taste/feel, peeling/rotting skin, completely white (blind) eyes, loss of limbs, hysteria/paranoia, occasionally bleeding ears/mouth/eyes, etc.
And the human mutations:
- Light radiation exposure: Pale skin, damaged hearing/sight, loss of hair, slightly heightened senses.
- Moderate radiation exposure: Loss of all body hair, loss of teeth, weak/deformed bones, altered vision, altered limbs.
- Heavy radiation exposure: Few humans have been exposed to these almost lethal amounts of radiation. Those who have survived have been permanently damaged. Rotting skin, throwing up, loss of hair/hearing/teeth/sight/limbs, deformed face and limbs, bleeding skin, etc.
