Human "Future Groups":
(Note: while there are many humans in the following groups, many chose not to associate themselves with one. It will mean less obligations, more freedom, but also less safety.Being a lone merchant also means you will have to compete with the groups. Thus, it is both a benefit to join these groups and a setback. The choice is up to each individual.)
Nemesis: The Nemesis have been formed shortly after the nukes fell. A small branch of the resistance formed a closed circle of people, where everyone would be protected from violence of the outside world. Ironically, the Nemesis group believes the only rightful way to survive is by waging war on those who would oppose them. Its members are fairly indoctrinated and follow their leader's commands without a question. Building their scrap cities in a more military fashion than the others, they are one of the most bloodthirsty groups in the wastelands, surpassed only by Yubosh Fighters. The Nemesis, of course, still trades and has fairly normal relationships with other groups. Living mainly in the south of the former Nevada state, they claim the vast desert as their own protectorate. The recent threat of shadow claws has forced this group into even stronger militarisation. Any outsiders, that aren't the usual tradesmen, are handled with extreme prejudice and suspicion, so visiting the Nevada Fortress is dangerous. Main scrap city: The Nevada Fortress (by the former city of Austin) - Nevada.
Compendium: This group of humans, who strive to survive in the harsh wasteland by scavenging materials from military and civilian wreckages, and live mainly in the former California state, has been formed a few years after the nuclear war. A lot of people were scavenging for something - anything - to trade and survive with. A great "visionary", now already dead from radiation poisoning, has rallied them all into the group now known as Compendium. They have strived to a collective goal of finding useable scrap metal and reselling it for food and other goods to survive. They all all partake in large expeditions to former war zones, where there are hundreds of vehicle wrecks. They then either sell the scrap materials or use them for their own needs. In fact, they are the largest provider of scrap materials in the ravaged world. Their cities are scrap dumps, where they hoard large amounts of scavenged goods and also sell them. Being less hostile than the rest, the Compendium humans avoid conflict and try to prosper by trading mainly. Main scrap city: New Fresno - California.
Sea Lions: The former California republic is the are where the Sea Lions group resides. Formed by the local branch of fishermen, these men have seen the difficulty in obtaining food in their new, ravaged world. Thus, this group was formed. Found mostly along the coast, these humans use old, still floating ships to sail out to the sea and catch various sorts of fish. The specimens they catch are, of course, mutated varieties of old-era fish, but most are edible and quite prized. They also have specially adapted ships, which take a journey farther away from the coast, where the water clears up, and scoop up some of the seawater. Bringing it back to the port, this seawater is pumped into large containers, where it's left to evaporate, leaving only salt. While a very profitable job, Sea Lions are also in great danger, since the ships they use are fragile, sink regularly and the sea is full of mutated beasts, ready to eat a victim that's unfortunate enough to bathe in the water. They sell their fish and salt in the cities and, because of the demand for these commodities, their scrap cities are often bustling with merchants and people from other areas. Main scrap city: Fort Bragg - California.
Technocrats: A very small group of humans, who reside in the northern part of the former Nevada state. They don't actually build cities of their own, but rather inhabit the old military reasearch bases. Concentrating on technology, they are determined to develop new weapons and gadgets that would grant them a better life. Keeping mostly to themselves, they are sometimes raided by the Nemesis, but also trade their found and repaired weapons and items to other people. While they are not scientists, they do have the privilege of living in the old bases and studying old research books and logs in the laboratories. Seizing the old military weapons caches, they have the largest amount of energy weapons in the area, wielding mainly laser weaponry, while a few individuals have even been seen with plasma rifles. Main base: Area TE-3 (north of the former Battle Mountain city) - Nevada.
Bazzarium: The merchants of the wastes. It is not clear whether this group was ever actually formed or if it simply got together by various merchants coexisting and working together in a single place. However, the Bazzarium is quite a well-organised group, consisting of caravans, guards, traders, archivers and the like. They are everywhere, although their main city is located in eastern California. Their groups of mutated horses and wagons travel from city to city, selling and trading scrap, items, weapons, food and so on. With being the primary connection route between scrap cities, they are also the perfect target for robbers, bandits and raids. The Bazzarium group often hires mercenaries to protect their caravans and offers jobs to adventurers, who would like to travel to a certain place with them. However, the clever residents do not only trade, their town also grows the much-prized tobacco, which they grow and cure in an enclosed, guarded area. When the tobacco is ready, it's loaded onto the caravans and sold to various cities at a high price. Main scrap city: The Bazzar (former city of Bishop) - California.
Mutant Tribes:
(Note: unlike the humans, most of the mutants do chose to join tribes and stay in them. This also has advantages and setbacks. Being in a tribe means easier life, because of all the tribe working for the good of all the members, but also means less freedom. Being on your own, again, means life is more dangerous. The choice is up to you.)
The Fallen: The mutants that have been imprisoned and tortured in the CHC era have joined The Fallen tribe. They seek revenge for their cousins and try to disrupt the "normal" life of ordinary humans by any means necessary. Although this bloodthirsty group seems imposing and dangerous, they are really more of a nuisance than a danger. Having few mutants in the tribe, they occasionally attack the human caravans and lone wanderers, but are not well enough equipped or trained - or motivated - to attack scrap cities. The Fallen will only welcome other mutants and any humans will be usually met with violence. Their main camp: New Delta by the ruins of the former city of Delta - Utah.
The Stalkers: Another small tribe of mutants, the Stalkers have been formed by various mutants after the war, seeing no other viable options to survive other than to steal. They are the bandits and robbers that mainly steal from Compendium and occasionally rob the human caravans. They avoid skirmishes with humans, but will use force if necessary. Humans have been known to visit this tribe, but there is a very high chance one will be mugged. Their main camp: The Barrow - near the former Cedar City - southern Utah.
Et'chek Tribe: Et'chek's tribe philosophy is quite different than that of the other tribes and groups. They are peace-oriented and believe every being has a right to a dignified and violence-free life, as much as this is possible in the wastelands. They will welcome both humans and mutants alike, although the majority of their numbers are, indeed, mutants. They are a fairly large tribe in an excellent trading location of the wastes. Since they are more pacifistic, they only try to provide themselves with hunting beasts, rather than attacking caravans and other humans. They do, however, defend themselves fiercly if attacked. They are one of the few tribes that actually remain in constant contact with nearby human scrap cities, either trading or just sharing information. Main camp: - by the former city of Lone Pine - eastern California.
Yubosh Fighters: The Yubosh are a military tribe, attacking human cities and even mutant tribes. Therefore, they are an outlaw by both sides. Rumours are this tribe was formed by a bunch of pre-war criminals, who had a charismatic, albeit insane, leader, with the thoughts of their only right to fight and survive. Although they are fierce warriors, they lack the necessary weaponry to cause real damage and are on their way to being completely destroyed, because of the pressures from both sides. Main camp: Lion's Mouth - by the former city of Needles - eastern California.
The Travelers: Another peace-oriented tribe - the merchants of the mutants. They are very similar to the human Bazarium, travelling between mutant camps, trading and moving goods. They are also a target for badnits and robbers, protecting their caravans with hired manpower. The mutants hunt and train giant rats for their tow animals, instead of mutated horses. Main camp: The Hub - by the former city of Tonopah - Nevada.
